I am so angry!

I saw a post the other day where the teacher had the children make "cows" out of a paper plate and precut pieces. Some of the comments said, "Oh, process art!" After a couple of those, I commented, "This is not process art. Process art is where the adult supplies the materials and steps back, allowing the children to explore and create." I had one positive comment and I went back to the post to read it.

Well. The first time I didn't realize that I had watched it without the sound. This time? The music was mocking! Obviously making fun of what they created. And whose fault is that? The "teacher's!" I put it in quotes, because not all adults are qualified to teach!

I thought I'd vent here before I post anything. I need to calm down. I was going to suggest they check out your posts, as well as MaryAnn Kohl's. I have this strong desire to educate adults about preschool, but tend to be an introvert. Oooohhhhhmmmmm.....

Hey Gerianne! I definitely hear your frustration, and oftentimes share it with you. Unfortunately, what drives so much of the experiences we offer children is for performance. And this is performance all around - to perform for parents and perform for social media. Sadly, many can't get behind process art because they don't fully understand the learning that actually happens. Happy you feel safe enough to vent here!
